About the Mitrul from the man himself: "Mitrul" translates to "maddog" from the highland Georgian language, where my roots come from. It’s one of the first knives I ever made in my workshop, and over time, it’s become a real powerhouse of a folder. It started out as a big, rugged fixed-blade knife with a rough but already distinctive combined grind. Now, Mitrul has evolved into one of the most challenging knives I’ve ever crafted. The blade alone is a feat, with four primary bevels, a false edge, and a fuller that nearly intersects the cutting edge — a tricky design that’s become part of my signature style. All of this is done entirely by hand on a grinder, no milling machines involved. It might be one of the toughest grinds in the knife industry. Mitrul is always a challenge for me, but it’s also a true reflection of my style — with a focus on intricate details and a complex yet harmonious design.
TAS Knives are hand crafted by designer and maker Soso Tumasov from Tbilisi, Georgia (as in the country Georgia not the state). Many of Soso's pieces have an unique almost cyberpunk, futuristic apocalypse vibe to them, setting them apart from most of the blades you see on the market today. On top of the killer aesthetics, he also incorporates complex multi angle grind lines in his blades that truly show off his talent and dedication to the craft and is amazing at finishing common knife making materials such as titanium in a very innovative manner for an end result that stands out and execution that actually delivers.
